the neighborhood
Fauna is a small oasis strategically located on the main pedestrian street of the Old City and just a few meters walk from the city's main attractions.
The Old City is our historic center, boasting Montevideo's richest and most important architectural heritage. Here you'll find a wide variety of renovated and excellently preserved historic buildings, side by side with others in a state of total disrepair.
It's a unique place, not only recognized for its museums and iconic buildings, but also for the versatility of its people and the diversity of its cultural landscape. Fruit vendors, office workers, and bank employees mingle with cruise ship tourists, who in turn mingle with the Candombe drummers and the neighborhood's residents and locals. The photo opportunities are endless.
While the cultural offering is immense, so is the culinary offering. From restaurants serving contemporary cuisine from renowned local chefs to the more traditional grills at Mercado del Puerto, cafes with specialty coffee and top-notch pastries. Everything is located just a few blocks from FAUNA.
GETTING AROUND
The best way to get around the neighborhood is by foot. We are located on a pedestrian street, less than two blocks away from the nearest bus stop where you can get to all other parts of the city. An easy and highly recommended alternative is to use Uber or Cabify.
For those wanting to go beyond the Old City, we recommend a walk along the RAMBLA, located just three blocks away. A 35-minute walk along the Río de la Plata will take you to Playa Ramírez. The more adventurous can rent a bicycle and pedal the 20 km of RAMBLA to Carrasco and explore the city's waterfront.
